Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced and impartial professional to serve as the Independent Chair of the VALIDATE Trial Steering Committee (TSC)—a pivotal governance group overseeing the VALIDATE Programme of Research.

About VALIDATE

VALIDATE is an innovative research programme designed to streamline and enhance the performance evaluation of multiple In-Vitro Diagnostics (IVDs). Sponsored by MFT, the programme uses a master protocol and a series of sub-studies to deliver high-quality, resource-efficient evaluations across clinical specialties. VALIDATE represents a new model for IVD research delivery, with a strong emphasis on scientific rigour, participant safety, and operational excellence.

Role Overview

As Independent Chair of the VALIDATE TSC, you will provide strategic oversight and independent guidance to ensure the programme meets the highest standards of research governance. You will supervise the progress of the master protocol and its sub-studies, advise on ethical and regulatory matters, and help safeguard participant wellbeing

Key Responsibilities

  • Chair twice-yearly TSC meetings and provide independent advice to the sponsor, funder, Chief Investigator, and host institution
  • Ensure adherence to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and the UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Research
  • Oversee protocol compliance, patient safety, and ethical approvals
  • Review and approve substantial amendments to the master and sub-protocols

Committee Composition

The TSC includes an Independent Statistician, Public Member, and other experts. It reports to the VALIDATE Trial Management Group and advises the programme sponsor.

Additional Details

  • Time Commitment: Two meetings per year to be held virtually, plus occasional correspondence
  • Remuneration: This is a voluntary role with no financial compensation
