The NIHR HealthTech Research Centre in Emergency and Acute Care is made up of four themes split into two clusters.

1. Clinical Cluster

Realisation of our vision requires a focus on the care settings where Emergency and Acute Care are provided or could be provided in the future. These settings can be found in primary and community care settings (GP surgeries, community diagnostic hubs and home care) or in secondary care settings (hospitals, including emergency departments) – or in ambulances.

Our two dedicated clinical themes allow us to focus on patient care pathways in specific settings, reflecting how patients interact with healthcare and encouraging clinicians across settings to work together to solve health issues.

2. Methodology Cluster

Recognising and understanding the needs and barriers encountered in urgent care enables HealthTech to be developed focused on meeting these needs, which can then be translated into beneficial routine care for patients.

New HealthTech must demonstrate significant improvements in patient diagnosis, care, outcomes, and viewed to be an appropriate use of healthcare resources in order to be used by health care providers, patients, and the public

Our Methodology Cluster contains two themes that directly address these issues. They will engage with the Clinical Cluster to evaluate HealthTech, generate  robust evidence and promote optimal implementation.
