Chris Smith
Senior Clinical Trials Co-ordinator
Chris joined Research and Innovation (R&I) at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) in 2020 to support COVID-19 research, including the RECOVERY trial – a large-scale COVID-19 study for which MFT was one of the top recruiters. Chris also coordinated critical care research at the Trust, before joining the Innovation Team to support the delivery of the Health Foundation’s Adopting Innovation Programme.
During the past 12 months, Chris has been working closely with Dr Tim Felton, Director of the NIHR HealthTech Research Centre (HRC) in Emergency and Acute Care, to develop a series of research studies, including VALIDATE – a programme of research which aims to facilitate performance evaluations of In-Vitro Diagnostics (IVDs).
As a Senior Clinical Trials Coordinator for the NIHR HRC in Emergency and Acute Care, Chris works closely with the research delivery teams at MFT. Together, they deliver impactful studies which aim to generate high quality evidence for novel medical technologies in emergency care and acute care.
Before moving to Manchester, Chris studied at the University of Leeds where he obtained a degree in Genetics.
