Professor Tim Felton
Director of NIHR HealthTech Research Centre in Emergency and Acute Care
Dr Tim Felton is a Consultant in Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) and a Clinical Senior Lecturer in the Division of Infection and Immunity at The University of Manchester. Tim is also Associate Medical Director for Research and Innovation at MFT.
His research interests are in developing diagnostic-led antimicrobial stewardship and precision medicine strategies for patients with respiratory tract infection and sepsis, to improve clinical outcomes and suppress emergence of antimicrobial resistance.
Tim has extensive experience in in-vitro diagnostic development, healthcare innovation and collaborative working with commercial partners as well as advising and supporting HealthTech partners to develop technologies for NHS implementation.
Tim was previously director of MFT’s Diagnostics and Technology Accelerator (DiTA) working with industry partners to develop diagnostics and medical devices. He successfully led the application to the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) for HealthTech Research Centre (HRC) designation.
As Director of the NIHR HRC in Emergency and Acute Care, Tim leads the strategy and ultimate sustainability of the programme and provides oversight to the delivery of our overall vision.
